flower child is Sydney's only store stocking range of modern cloth nappies, gorgeous wooden toys, a wide variety of genuine Baltic Amber beads and other sustainable/eco-friendly gifts.

We aim to give you a wide range of Australian-designed modern cloth nappies to look, touch and play with in real life.  We'll give you expert information on all things cloth (and a few other things), we'll size and fit your baby, and if we can't help with what you need, we'll find out for you.

We are a family run business, located in Sydney, and always on the lookout for new products. Most of our products are designed and/or made in Australia. We also ensure that any items manufactured overseas are done in an ethical manner. If you have a product that we may be interested in - please contact us.

Where we came from:

flower child was originally born out of frustration. As an expectant mum, Salena thought she was destined to use terry squares and pilchers (and that was only 4 years ago!).  But, thanks to this wonderful thing called the Internet, she somehow stumbled across these things called modern cloth nappies.

Like a dog with a bone, she researched them, bought a whole load online (second hand) and naively attended secondhand baby clothing markets expecting to find these  "MCN's" everywhere. But alas, they were nowhere to be found!

Slightly confused about this (surely everyone would want to use these easy-as-disposable nappies and save loads of money?), she researched more to try and find a shop that sold them.

Nope. Nada, Not-a-one.

You can see where this is going, can't you?

So, a bit miffed about this whole thing, she researched making her own.  Seemed simple enough - lots of people were doing it, and she passed (almost) Year 9 Home Ec. Bought a second hand sewing machine and toddled off to the nearest haberdashery store to buy the necessary items.

You guessed it - nappy making materials were only available online!

After returning to work from 6 months maternity leave, she lasted a few months before realising that the corporate world just wasn't the right fit, and opened flower child.  Originally supplying nappy making fabrics and modern cloth nappies, it has evolved slightly and now, whilst flower child doesn't sell fabric anymore, they do still have a large range of Australian-designed nappies, along with gorgeous, sustainable gifts and recycled maternity and kids clothing (in the Collaroy store).

Not content with supplying the northern beaches locals with all things eco, in March 2011, flowerchild@home was launched.  Bringing you a range of hand-picked items from the flower child store, a flowerchild@home consultant visits you and your friends in the comfort of your home or workplace, and demonstates the great range!

Salena's vision for flower child stores is to create a community, where you can learn new things and meet new people in a casual, fuss-free environment.

Frustrated about not being able to see nappies in real life, or purchase nappy making materials locally, mum of one, Sal, decided to open a store in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Tucked away, but still easily accessible, the shop has already made a name for itself as the place to come when you are looking for something a bit different.
