Last Minute Stuff…

Merry Christmas Eve!

Here are a few last minute organising tips for getting your house together for a Christmas celebration!

  • Make a quick To Do list before you get started
  • Charge cameras and camcorders
  • Prep food and drinks as early as you can while keeping it fresh.
  • Inventory your dishware and plan out the table if you haven’t already. This will   help you delegate the setup to someone else!
  • Be creative and use what you have for decorations, and food
  • Keep calm and remember this is a time for you to relax and be merry!

We also found some awesome last minute ideas in case you can’t get to the store.

Clear your table and cover it with a festive Christmas tablecloth, or use a bit of fabric or wrapping paper as a runner ( I love this idea!). If you don’t have a Christmas centerpiece that you can use or dishes that will work, go outside and grab some twigs or other natural things to dress up the table. You can also steal from the Christmas tree: clippings and ornaments in a glass vase or hurricane make a festive focal point for your spread.

Plate your food using existing Christmas ornaments or candy canes. Display your Christmas cards and group them by color…This becomes an instant decoration because of the color coding.

Uh oh Need a quick gift for a guest?  If you don’t have any gifts around the house, go online and buy an e-gift card from a local retailer or better yet pop some Christmas baking into a small gift bag as a take-away gift.

Cheers!

Relax this Christmas.

Are you getting as excited as we are about Christmas! With it only being a few days away were hoping everyone isn’t out and about stressing themselves out.

Here are some ideas to help you relax your way through the holiday season..

If you are hosting family this year have a music break before everyone arrives. Play some uplifting or relaxing music and allow yourself to destress.

Connect with nature. Take a quiet walk on the beach or in the woods.

Don’t over-schedule. Keep your holiday time organized but don’t press yourself for time.

Sip relaxing tea while just listening to the world around you. Not allowing any worries to penetrate your thoughts.

Bake a batch of cookies with your kids. Kids are very perceptive and can feel it when you are stressed out.

Do something good for others….

Let a driver make a turn while you wait. Smile and wave!

Donate to a charity whose work you genuinely admire. Giving really is better than receiving—really!

Let somebody else get on the escalator, off the elevator, through the grocery line, first.

Remember those you love. Bring back family traditions, have dad dress up like Santa just like your uncle did when you were a kid.

Breathe – try relaxation breathing and make sure to do this at least twice a day.

Enjoy time with your family and friends and don’t let Christmas stress you out!

Crafty.

Hi Everyone!

It’s so hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner. I’ve been thinking of some crafts I could do with my toddler that would be fun for the both of us. We’ve all seen the reindeer made of kids hands and the reindeer candy canes with glued on eyes. I decided to dig a little deeper and see what I could find.

One common theme I saw was gingerbread houses. I love this idea but buying a kit seemed a bit easy. I came across a quick and easy way to do this at home using a few bits and pieces you may already have in your home.

Stuff you will need:

  • 1 empty, washed,  milk carton
  • 6 full crispbreads or similar crackers
  • some white frosting, homemade or store bought
  • 20cm x 20cm piece of cardboard or paper plate (for the base)
  • a little aluminum foil ( to cover the base and make it shiny! )
  • Candy (can be gum drops, peppermints, m&m’s, licorice, etc.)
  • Decorating bag (optional) or a ziploc with the corner cut out of it

Basically you use a dollop of the icing on the plate or aluminum foil base and stick the closed milk carton on it. From there you use the icing to help put the crackers on the sides and on the top. You use the carton standing up so it actually looks like a house. When doing this the icing acts as the glue. Let your kids adhere the candy to the house by using the icing. This can be super cute!

Another adorable Christmas craft idea comes from The Artful Parent. What a great and imaginative idea! Coffee filters are cheap and and these come out so beautiful.

I also found these Jingle Bell Ribbon Rings that you could do with older kids. Although I bet the younger ones would love playing with them. This website, MakesandTakes.com is pretty awesome when it comes to crafts. I love most of their projects.

I would love to see pictures of this posted to our facebook page if you decide to try these!
